It is that time of year again when all the two-leggers either hunt for brightly colored eggs and gobble up chocolate (Easter) or they eat lots of this flat unleavened bread called Matzah with four cups or wine. (Passover) Which ever holiday your two legger may celebrate I would like to remind you of springtime holiday hazards that you want to keep your four-legger safe from.

1. The Easter Lily (Plant):
Actually any Lily is toxic, especially to Cats. No one really knows why these beautiful flowering plants are so poisonous but ingesting even a tiny amount of this plant or flower can cause kidney failure and other gastrointestinal or nervous system trouble. Even the pollen of the plant is toxic so if your cat gets any of this on their fur it is bath time!

2. Chocolate Bunnies, Chocolate Coins and other items made from ground cacao seeds.
The darker the chocolate the more fat and caffeine-like stimulate known as methylxanthines. This is a no-no for us four-leggers. We have a great nose for finding sweet things so if you are having an Easter egg hunt make certain not to hide the chocolate in our reach we will sniff it out.

3. Xylitol (Candy and gum sweetener)
Read the labels and keep any products with this ingredient far away from us!

4. Easter Plastic Grass
It looks fun, moves in the wind haunting us to play with it but be warned it is deadly if swallowed. Any string-like object when ingested or partially ingested can cause a gastrointestinal obstruction that can be life-threatening.

5. Wine
Any kind of alcohol is significantly more toxic to pets than to humans. And remember that grape juice you might be substituting for wine at passover is also a big no-no that can quickly be life-threatening. Just say no and pass me a bone instead!

Might I suggest hiding a few bowls of these for your hunt or serving up a some of these! Happy Holidays!

I also want to post a fun event that is happening in NYC:

Nearly 275 Faberge eggs created by famous designers will be hidden around the city between April 1 and April 17. Participants can check in with their smartphones when they locate one of the two-foot-tall eggs. I hear that there are tons of famous artists who have created very special eggs! Here is a link!!!

I have never felt anything quite like this and was the first to jump up from my puppy bed as the big booms and major shaking happened. The two leggers called for me to protect them from this crazy giant like thunder that moved the floor. They used the words we learned at the ZoomRoom… “touch” …and I came running… not because I was scared but to help calm them from the disturbance.

I have decided to put together a Sadie Disaster Advice Entry into my blog today. Here are some things to remember in times of disaster.

 1. Tag you’re it!
Identification is a MUST. We four-leggers often become frightened during natural disasters such as an earthquake so it is VERY important to have a collar and ID, a tattoo or micro ID chip so you can find your way home if you get lost.

 2. Keep Calm and Carry On.
Keeping leashes and harnesses that are easily found is important, we keep our leashes on a fun rack. I have a sturdy earthquake pet house that I can crawl into if I need to stay away from falling items so I highly recommend keeping a sturdy pet carrier around.

 3. Eat, Drink, and Be Safe.
Bottled water and plenty of food on hand is a must. You never know when you might need these items in your home and car. It is also a good idea to have a few extra chew sticks around to easy the shaken nerves and keep your mind on other things.

4. Medications.
Now I do not have any meds to take but if I did it would be important that my two-leggers had an extra stash in case of an emergency.

5. Keep Warm.
Having an extra blanket is always important especially if the electricity goes out and you need a little heat.

6. Hide and Seek
Always know your four-legger’s hiding places and have a “safe” word to coax them out. We learned the word “touch” at the ZoomRoom and I always come to that word because I know I will get a good treat.

7. First Aid Kit.
Booboos happen and it is always good to be prepared just in case.

 8. Light it up.
Now this time we did not lose any electricity but we have a backup just incase and so should you. Camping lights do a wonderful job. And remember to keep extra batteries on hand!

Just remember that we four ledgers don’t understand what an earthquake is so it is really important to speak calmly to us and keep us involved. I was very happy to help do a walk through the house to make certain everything was OK. It calmed my nerves to have a purpose. Stay safe!

I did not have a clean sweep with my Oscar picks but I did better than some two-leggers. Out of 24 categories I predicted 15!  I knew I was picking some of the underdogs so I am very happy for all the winners and all the people who are winners just because they were nominated.

My favorite movie did well, Gravity took home 7! 12 Years a Slave pulled in the big one Best Picture of the Year and my favorite quote of the night came from the Best Supporting Actress who said: “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.” – Nyong’o. Which is why I have accepted my dream of being a “dogtronaut”

The show was fabulous… My favorite moments:
There was a twitter photo that broke twitter for a few moments! Ellen DeGeneres you broke twitter for 20 minutes!

People danced to a Happy tune.

And Big Mama and Papa Pizza was delivered!

Now that’s what I call a party! Woof!
