My mom loves to cook for me and here are two of my favorite Halloween Treats that I want to share with you. These are great trick or treats for us four legged monsters. First a little image to scare you or make you laugh cause that is what my mom does when I try to be scary… then the recipes.HALLOWEENSURGEONGENERALwarning-2-1.jpg
Recipe 1:
PUMPKIN APPLE FROZEN DOG TREATS
Ingredients
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 small apple, peeled and remember to remove the core then chopped into small bits
1 tbsp. coconut oil (we use this one)
1 tsp. honey (raw or pure organic honey is the best)
Water 2 small silicone molds (BOO) (skeletons and ghosts)
moldsforAPT
Instructions
Add pumpkin puree, apple, coconut oil, and honey to a blender.
Add a little water at a time and blend until smooth and liquefied.

Carefully spoon mixture into molds and freeze until solid.
Bone Chillingly delicious!

Recipe 2:
Easy as Pumpkin Pie HALLOWEEN DOG TREATS
Ingredients
1 single-serve jar of pumpkin/squash baby food (we used Organic Gerbers)
1/2 to 3/4 cup of rice flour, or other flour of your choice
water as needed
frozen green peas
Pumpkincookie.png
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350F or 180C.

Mix baby food in a medium mixing bowl
Incrementally add flour, mixing into a firm dough.

The amount of flour required may vary depending on your individual pumpkin mixture and any optional ingredients your pup has requested.

Hand roll into small balls
Place balls on a lined baking sheet
Flatten gently with your hand or spoon.

To create “pumpkin lines”:
press the flat side of a fork or knife gently in the center, or the curved side of a spoon gently on either side.

Top with a green pea “stem” and gently push into the dough to secure the pea

Bake for approximately 15 minutes.
Cool before serving or storing.
Guaranteed to carve a smile on your pup’s face.

little witch outdoors

Happy Halloween!@sadiemiki the little Miki with a big heart!

It’s time to look for the Great Pumpkin again!

Mom is heating up our kitchen with some yummy treats. Pumpkin is an extremely friendly dog food that is yummy as well as beneficial for fiber and beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. I am licking my lips just thinking about all the great recipes we can make:

Pumpkin Party Balls
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
2 cups oat flour
1 egg
1 cup pure pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons ground flaxseed
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Grab a medium sized mixing bowl and mix all the ingredients up good.

Place the mixture in the fridge for 12-24 hrs for easier handling (it is kinda gooey)

Shape into little balls (I like mine tiny as my mouth is petite, even if the mailman thinks it is big)

Place the bite sized balls on a lined cookie sheet.

Bake 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Let cool and enjoy!

Pumpkin Ice Ice Baby
Use 100% pumpkin puree or puree your own boiled pumpkin.

Pour the mixture into ice cube trays.

Freeze.

These are just like little popsicle treats.

Pumpkin cubes are a healthy snack that is great for healthy skin and coats.

Pumpkin helps with upset tummies too!!! Bonus.

NITE, NITE BANANAS… see you in 24 hours!

3. Blend Bananas in

the food processor

3. Add in 1 Tablespoon of creamy peanut butter

SERVE IMMEDIATELY or place in a container and freeze for a firmer treat. I eat mine rignt away! No time like the present to give yourself a tasty treat. If you like, you can add in strawberries or blueberriess too! I like mine classic.

Futuristic night cityscape view. Hong Kong

Sadie Miki the wonder dog helping Batman save the city … R is now for Rover 🙂

We four-legged are all superheroes of one sort or another. Just look at the reality of it… we possess extraordinary talents. My supernatural phenomena is being able to eat a treat in one mouthful. Think about the symbolic moral goal of it… I am protecting the public both two-legged and four-legged of forbidden calories.  With one whoosh of my mouth the calories are defeated and can no longer hurt others. And you guessed it my mask is that I am not really a “dog” I am a four-legged wonder called Sadie. Now go forth and save human kind by joining me in gobbling up all the treats you can find!

Until our next adventure! Stay tuned.

What a treat, today my two legged went into the kitchen and started to bake just for me!

I was the sous chef and made sure that my line cook (two-legged) was doing everything to my liking.
ingredients_1

FIRST we started with the ingredients:
2 – eggs
2 baby jars of BeechNut Apple & Pumpkin or you can use 1/2 cup of Nummy Tum-Tum Organic Pumpkin Puree
2 Tablespoons of milk
2 1/2 cups of wheat flour
(now you can substitute this if you have gluten issues with cocunut flour or almond meal or buckwheat or corn flour or meal)

Water on hand if you need to make your mixture playable yet stiff.

Then we need to MIX IT up a bit

mixitupWe started with a spoon but then my two-legger resorted to hand mixing. I offered my paws but mom said no because I just got groomed. Darn that groomer for making me too beautiful for my own good.

ROLL IT OUT and cut it up
sadiecutterWe just bought this really cute cookie cutter with my name on it from a shop on Etsy called Name That Cookie

My two-legged was so excited to try it out. I just love it when my two-legged gets excited, it makes me wag my tail (especially when it means making me cookies!)

If you don’t have a cookie cutter with your name on it you can make other shapes or smaller plain bones too.
littlebonecutter
Oh the wait is exhausting. BAKE in a pre-heated oven
at
350°F Fahrenheit (or 177°C Celsius) 20 minutes, then flip for another 20 minutes. Not all ovens are calibrated to the same so look in on your bones to make sure they do not burn.

sadiewaitingforbones

Then let them cool.

And my favorite part… TEST them!

Bone-a-lickious Howl-o-ween Recipe

For extra crunchy Bake in the oven for another 5 -10 minutes and allow to cool.

SADIE_ICECREAM_2015_MAXWELLDOGWhat we four-leggers do for your two-legged pals. This last weekend was a fun event at Maxwell Dog in Studio City. They had famed photographer of us four-leggers Diana Lundin on hand to scoop up some of the yummiest and cutest images of dogs and ice cream. I must admit I was a bit timid and usually save my sweet tooth for pup-a-chino but Diana got some wonderful shots. Now go out and enjoy some ice cream with your pooch today! PS. Remember to serve your pet dog friendly ice cream. Love Sadie.

DOGGIE ICE CREAM RECIPE:

SADIE_cookingLabelSome pooches just have elevated tastebuds and stick up their nose and leave it on the plate. This is the case in our household. After many recipe trials and errors and countless dollars thrown in the trash here are some recipes that have made the grade.
Lamb & Rice

Ingredients
1 Lamb chop
1 cup of brown rice
5 mini carrots
1/4 cup peas

Mint Sauce
1/2 small bunch of mint.
1/4 cup boiling water
1 TSP cider vinegar
1/4 tsp agave or raw honey
 (Sadie suggests the raw honey)
dash of sea salt

Directions
Chop up the lamb, mix it together with cooked brown rice, carrots and peas.

Boil some water while you finely chop the mint. Add the mint to the jar, then the boiling water. Add the agave syrup or honey. Let it cool down in the jar for a while. Add the cider vinegar and sea salt, place a lid on the jar and shake it up.

Add some of the mint sauce into your lamb and rice mixture then press into a little bowl and let it “form” in the fridge.

Turkey & Macaroni

Ingredients
16 oz           Ground turkey, raw

1/2 oz          Turkey, liver, raw
8 oz             Macaroni, whole-wheat, dry weight
1 oz             Carrots, finely chopped
1 oz             Zucchini, finely chopped
1 oz             Broccoli, finely chopped
1/2 oz          Cranberries, finely chopped
1 tbsp          Safflower Oil

Directions
Over medium-high heat, cook meat, stirring and breaking up with a wooden spoon until it is cooked through (do not overcook).

Let it cool until it is just warm to the touch.

Use only whole wheat macaroni: bring water to a rapid boil 7-10 min or until soft, stirring occasionally. Drain, rinse under cool water and let cool to the touch.

Mix macaroni and meat and serve cooled and just a tad warm to the touch.

Bacon Cheddar Squares

Ingredients
2 slices Bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 Egg
1/2 teaspoon dried Thyme
1/2 cup Spelt Flour

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well combined.

Knead dough into ball and roll onto a floured surface 1/4 inch thick.

Place on prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the edges brown.

Take a straight edge and score the dough horizontally and then vertically to make a grid (pizza cutters work well).

Cool and break into pieces, then refrigerate.

Peanut Butter Thumbprints

Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup peanut butter, creamy
1/2 cup chicken broth, low sodium
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar free strawberry jam

Directions
Preheat oven to 325° F

Whisk together the flour, oats and cinnamon.

Place the peanut butter, chicken broth and water in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 15 seconds.

Stir together the warm peanut butter and liquids. If needed, microwave again for 10 to 15 seconds. Stir again until all of the liquid is incorporated into thepeanut butter.

Make a well in the dry ingredients.

Pour the peanut butter mixture into the dry ingredients and stir, using a fork, until a dough forms.

Lightly spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

Using a tablespoon sized cookie scooper, scoop out rounded balls onto the prepared baking sheet.

Create an indentation, and flatten each cookie.

Bake for 15 minutes. Leave the peanut butter dog treats in the oven, once it’s turned off, to cool.

Once the dog treats are completely cooled, place the jam in a microwave safe container.

Microwave for 10 seconds. Then stir the jam. If needed, microwave for another 10 seconds and stir. You want a smooth liquid consistency.

Using a 1/2 teaspoon, gently spoon the jam into each cookies indentation.

Let the jam cool completely before moving the dog treats.

Wheat Free Ham n’ Cheese on Rye Cookie

Ingredients
1 cup rye flour

1 cup rolled oats
1/8 cup flax meal
2 eggs
2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese, reduced fat
1/3 cup chicken broth (organic & low sodium is best)
2 to 3 oz. ham, finely diced

Directions
Preheat oven to 350° F

In a large bowl, whisk together the rye flour, rolled oats and flax meal.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the Parmesan cheese and chicken broth.

Make a well in the dry mixture and pour in the cheese mixture.

Stir together until combined.

Fold in the small diced ham.

Lightly spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

Using a tablespoon sized scooper, scoop out little round balls.

Dip the bottom of a measuring cup or glass in a bowl of water and flatten the ball into a cookie shape.

Repeat this process with the remaining batter.

Bake for 15 minutes. Let the treats cool completely before serving.

SADIE_COOKS_pupcakes

The kitchen has always fascinated me, it is a magical area in the house. There are large shiny objects in that room that open and often dispense yummy items. Some of them are tall and cool air flows out and others are short and I am told to sit and stay far away from them as they have hot breath when they open up. I think it must be a grumpy monster or something.

We are using both of these magical kitchen instruments today and I must say I am having a hard time waiting.

INGREDIENTS

Pupcakes
½ cup whole wheat flour (substitute if your pup is wheat sensitive)
1 teaspoon baking powder
⅓ cup vegetable oil
⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey

Frosting
3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
1½ tablespoons creamy peanut butter (this is my favorite and I get to like the spoon!)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat (the grumpy monster) oven to 350 F.
  2. Line 6 standard muffin tins or 12 mini muffin tins if you are a petite pup like me with paper liners, or spray with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  3. Whisk together, in a medium bowl, the flour and baking powder. Add the vegetable oil, applesauce, egg and honey, and whisk gently to combine. Divide the batter between the prepared muffin cups and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 10 to 15 minutes. Allow your pupcakes to cool completely before frosting / serving.
  4. To make the frosting, stir together the yogurt and peanut butter, then spread on top of each pupcake just before serving. The pupcakes can be kept for up to 3 days in the refrigerator, that is if you don’t eat them all first!

Enjoy and keep your tail wagging, it makes for a lovely breeze during the summer!
