SadiespecialchewydeliveryWhen a company sends a box of goodies just because you have to pay attention. Sadie just loves to get boxes in the mail and I think she can read because when a box comes with the chewy.com logo she gets extra excited.

The mailman had delivered a chewy’s box h=just a few weeks ago and we were not expecting another box. The doorbell rang and off Sadie went to greet whoever might be there. It was the mailman holding a Chewy.com box. Excitement filled the doorway, tails wagged so hard a breezeway was created.

How do you tell a dog that this might be a mistake LOL. As we called customer service to say we think there may be a problem and some other puppy’s box was sent to us by mistake I can see the glares coming my way. “what are you doing on the phone when there is a package for me right here in front of your nose?”
Sadiespecialchewydelivery2The facts came out … Chewy’s Customer Service announced the box was a gift from them to Sadie! What can you say about kind gestures … they make someone’s day. They brighten up the world. They make everything a little bit happier. I know that it made Sadie’s day fur-sure. Thank you Chewy.com you are the best!

sadies-pbnpupcream

I am working on my PupScout Ice Cream Badge and have a recipe to share with everyone. Now this recipe is not for the faint of stomach, there is a waiting period for eating this wonderful PupCream.

1. Pick out some nice ripe B.A.N.A.N.A.S! 3 to be exact.

2. Peel them naked.

(you might need your paw-rents help here)

HERE IS THE HARD PART…PUT THEM ON ICE AND FREEZE OVERNIGHT-NIGHT.

NITE, NITE BANANAS… see you in 24 hours!

3. Blend Bananas in

the food processor

3. Add in 1 Tablespoon of creamy peanut butter

SERVE IMMEDIATELY or place in a container and freeze for a firmer treat. I eat mine rignt away! No time like the present to give yourself a tasty treat. If you like, you can add in strawberries or blueberriess too! I like mine classic.

YUM YUM YUM

now that’s one tasty PUPCREAM

ENJOY!!!
PS
the two-leggers like this mixture too,
so make sure to finish your bowl or they may eat it!

THEFLY_buggingme

There is this fly that seems to be following me. Every time I go out on the town with my two-leggers to enjoy a peaceful lunch this stupid fly is there, buzzing around my head, taunting me. Teasing me. Torchering me. DARN that FLY!

I must look like a crazy puppy snapping at the air always missing him. This is getting serious because he is traveling miles and miles just to bother me. He buzzes past my ears and my two-leggers try their best to swat him away but he just keeps dive bombing me.

It causes me great stress, last time I saw the little bugger I tried to hide in my travel sling, oh the horrors of it all!

Flies spend a lot of time buzzing around germ riddled places like dumpsters, carcasses and animal droppings. Then, loaded down with yucky germs, this darn fly makes it his job to bother me.

Did you know there are ways to repel flies? I am going to list them in case you have a pesky fly that won’t leave you alone.

The Water Bag Trick
This one has no science behind it but a lot of people have tried this and they say it has worked. Hanging a clear zip-top bag of water with one or more copper pennies in it. Sounds strange to me too but if water boarding a fly will help I am willing to do it!

Essential Oils
You can make your own or buy some non-toxic fly repellent made of essential oils. Idaho tansy , geranium , sandalwood , lavender  , rosemary , and lemon essential oils are all known to repel flies naturally.

When you are choosing essential oils to use therapeutically for yourself and your pets, you want only the purest available. Some essential oils can cause harm to us four-leggers so if you use this method please be careful.

Fly Offensive Plants
Citronella is known for its mosquito-deterring properties, but it works somewhat on flies, as well. Other plants that have fly-repelling reputations are false indigo, lavender, elderberry, basil and mint.

Spray-Off Mixture
Mix two tablespoons of normal liquid dish soap with water and shake gently to combine and spray!

Here’s wishing you a fly free zone!

SADIE_COOKS_pupcakes

The kitchen has always fascinated me, it is a magical area in the house. There are large shiny objects in that room that open and often dispense yummy items. Some of them are tall and cool air flows out and others are short and I am told to sit and stay far away from them as they have hot breath when they open up. I think it must be a grumpy monster or something.

We are using both of these magical kitchen instruments today and I must say I am having a hard time waiting.

INGREDIENTS

Pupcakes
½ cup whole wheat flour (substitute if your pup is wheat sensitive)
1 teaspoon baking powder
⅓ cup vegetable oil
⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey

Frosting
3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
1½ tablespoons creamy peanut butter (this is my favorite and I get to like the spoon!)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat (the grumpy monster) oven to 350 F.
  2. Line 6 standard muffin tins or 12 mini muffin tins if you are a petite pup like me with paper liners, or spray with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  3. Whisk together, in a medium bowl, the flour and baking powder. Add the vegetable oil, applesauce, egg and honey, and whisk gently to combine. Divide the batter between the prepared muffin cups and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 10 to 15 minutes. Allow your pupcakes to cool completely before frosting / serving.
  4. To make the frosting, stir together the yogurt and peanut butter, then spread on top of each pupcake just before serving. The pupcakes can be kept for up to 3 days in the refrigerator, that is if you don’t eat them all first!

Enjoy and keep your tail wagging, it makes for a lovely breeze during the summer!

Oh the horror of it! Something happened this month that made my skin crawl. ANTS ANTS ANTS crawling all over my food. It made my people say nasty words that I have never heard before.

We tried everything to fix the problem. The little invaders that look like aliens were hard to combat; I had fun watching the two-leggers march around with spray bottles of equal parts of Windex and Ivory Soap, laying lines of Borax Soap on the patio, placing yeast and sugar traps beyond my reach but in the reach of the ants. The two-leggers were on a mission to rid us of these invaders from another world. The house was washed down with vinegar and lemon soap. All my food and treats were tossed. It caused me quite a scare.

Thank goodness a solution was found for my precious food and treats. The people ordered some special canisters for me to put my kibble, snacks and dog treats in.

They got these cool canisters from a company called simplehuman. I really like to watch the lids open.

The company also has dog food canisters but for a petite pup like me these kitchen tool canisters worked perfectly. Here’s hoping that your days are all ant-free and fun!

I have never felt anything quite like this and was the first to jump up from my puppy bed as the big booms and major shaking happened. The two leggers called for me to protect them from this crazy giant like thunder that moved the floor. They used the words we learned at the ZoomRoom… “touch” …and I came running… not because I was scared but to help calm them from the disturbance.

I have decided to put together a Sadie Disaster Advice Entry into my blog today. Here are some things to remember in times of disaster.

 1. Tag you’re it!
Identification is a MUST. We four-leggers often become frightened during natural disasters such as an earthquake so it is VERY important to have a collar and ID, a tattoo or micro ID chip so you can find your way home if you get lost.

 2. Keep Calm and Carry On.
Keeping leashes and harnesses that are easily found is important, we keep our leashes on a fun rack. I have a sturdy earthquake pet house that I can crawl into if I need to stay away from falling items so I highly recommend keeping a sturdy pet carrier around.

 3. Eat, Drink, and Be Safe.
Bottled water and plenty of food on hand is a must. You never know when you might need these items in your home and car. It is also a good idea to have a few extra chew sticks around to easy the shaken nerves and keep your mind on other things.

4. Medications.
Now I do not have any meds to take but if I did it would be important that my two-leggers had an extra stash in case of an emergency.

5. Keep Warm.
Having an extra blanket is always important especially if the electricity goes out and you need a little heat.

6. Hide and Seek
Always know your four-legger’s hiding places and have a “safe” word to coax them out. We learned the word “touch” at the ZoomRoom and I always come to that word because I know I will get a good treat.

7. First Aid Kit.
Booboos happen and it is always good to be prepared just in case.

http://www.amazon.com/Pet-First-Aid-Kit-Large/dp/B002PXEPJM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1395095215&sr=8-5&keywords=pet+emergency+kit

 8. Light it up.
Now this time we did not lose any electricity but we have a backup just incase and so should you. Camping lights do a wonderful job. And remember to keep extra batteries on hand!

http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-SP8DA-Sportsman-Lantern-Fluorescent/dp/B00005M283/ref=sr_1_23?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1395095745&sr=1-23

Just remember that we four ledgers don’t understand what an earthquake is so it is really important to speak calmly to us and keep us involved. I was very happy to help do a walk through the house to make certain everything was OK. It calmed my nerves to have a purpose. Stay safe!
