sadieLovesCantaloupeOn a campaign for my two legged friends to eat better I have seen some interesting foods come into the house. This morning I discovered a food group that I hope becomes a staple in this house hold.

It is called the Cantaloupe!

Oh the sweetness, oh the texture, oh my goodness.

Did you know that melons make a tasty and nutritious treat for us four-leggers. There is lots of vitamins C and B-6, plus fiber, folate (a water-soluble B vitamin), niacin (vitamin B3) and potassium.

My people looked it up on the internet and the cantaloupe is good for my eyes because it has a lot of beta-carotene. Studies have shown that beta-carotene can help prevent or reduce the growth of cataracts. But all I know it this new yummy food is a vision of dancing pleasure.

Cantaloupe is also good for us four-leggers because it is a non-allergenic, so most dogs can stomach it with no adverse reaction.

Now I love my cantaloupe naked but the two leggers like to beat it up.

If you like soup you might like the recipe they found on the Food Network by Alex Guarnaschelli, Cantaloupe Soup.

or this Cantaloupe-Veggie Smoothie

But take it from me the best cantaloupe is naked!

I have never felt anything quite like this and was the first to jump up from my puppy bed as the big booms and major shaking happened. The two leggers called for me to protect them from this crazy giant like thunder that moved the floor. They used the words we learned at the ZoomRoom… “touch” …and I came running… not because I was scared but to help calm them from the disturbance.

I have decided to put together a Sadie Disaster Advice Entry into my blog today. Here are some things to remember in times of disaster.

 1. Tag you’re it!
Identification is a MUST. We four-leggers often become frightened during natural disasters such as an earthquake so it is VERY important to have a collar and ID, a tattoo or micro ID chip so you can find your way home if you get lost.

http://www.dogids.com/

http://www.nationaldogregistry.com/tattoo.html

 2. Keep Calm and Carry On.
Keeping leashes and harnesses that are easily found is important, we keep our leashes on a fun rack. I have a sturdy earthquake pet house that I can crawl into if I need to stay away from falling items so I highly recommend keeping a sturdy pet carrier around.

 3. Eat, Drink, and Be Safe.
Bottled water and plenty of food on hand is a must. You never know when you might need these items in your home and car. It is also a good idea to have a few extra chew sticks around to easy the shaken nerves and keep your mind on other things.

4. Medications.
Now I do not have any meds to take but if I did it would be important that my two-leggers had an extra stash in case of an emergency.

5. Keep Warm.
Having an extra blanket is always important especially if the electricity goes out and you need a little heat.

6. Hide and Seek
Always know your four-legger’s hiding places and have a “safe” word to coax them out. We learned the word “touch” at the ZoomRoom and I always come to that word because I know I will get a good treat.

7. First Aid Kit.
Booboos happen and it is always good to be prepared just in case.

http://www.amazon.com/Pet-First-Aid-Kit-Large/dp/B002PXEPJM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1395095215&sr=8-5&keywords=pet+emergency+kit

 8. Light it up.
Now this time we did not lose any electricity but we have a backup just incase and so should you. Camping lights do a wonderful job. And remember to keep extra batteries on hand!

http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-SP8DA-Sportsman-Lantern-Fluorescent/dp/B00005M283/ref=sr_1_23?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1395095745&sr=1-23

Just remember that we four ledgers don’t understand what an earthquake is so it is really important to speak calmly to us and keep us involved. I was very happy to help do a walk through the house to make certain everything was OK. It calmed my nerves to have a purpose. Stay safe!

Another year approaches and we all are ready to celebrate. The two-leggers with their  bubbly drinks and me with my new ZiwiPeak bone. It will be a time for sharing, a time for remembering all the fun we had in 2013 running, jumping and laughing. I have my new years resolutions all ready to bark out:

1. I will wag my tail more often.

2. I will teach my people new tricks (as they have perfected the “more treats” trick last year)

3. I will visit with more four-leggers at the park. My plan is to become a park socialite.

4. I will give to the less fortunate paws in the world.

5. I will continue my education at the Zoomroom!

May your new year be filled with new experiences to wag your tail at, new faces to lick and new tricks to be learned.

It was such an auspicious day in the history of my two leggers life that they threw me a party at the zoomroom in Hollywood. I just love it there and suggest that if your people ever want to throw a party for you this would be a fabulous place to book. They have disco doggie lights, agility training equipment that is all set up for fun and games. They even played my favorite tunes for the gala event.

We had fortune cookies with my pearls of wisdom. The Seven “Sadie Says” fortunes that you can read here.
Image
Here is what they say in case you can’t read them:

SADIE SAYS: When Life gets too Busy. Take a Nap.
SADIE SAYS: Play Nice with Others. They will Play Nice with You.
SADIE SAYS: Remember to NOT Chase your Tail. You will get Nowhere
SADIE SAYS: Wag your Tail Often. It Takes the Bite out of Boredom.
SADIE SAYS: If Pack Leader Picks a Bone with You. Rollover. Play Dead.
SADIE SAYS: When you Find Happiness. Always Remember to Sit and Stay.
SADIE SAYS: If your Ball Lands in Poop. Just Leave It.

My two legged people made certain that all the goodies at the party were “Sadie Savvy” from the wine selection to the napkins and sodas.

You can get your own personalized labels done at www.personalwine.com…my people designed them with yours truly as the star model.

Because I learned how to go over the A frame and Dog Walk with cheese as my treat of choice we served 6 wonderful cheeses from the cheese store of silverlake ca. They have a website if you want to sample some of my favorites. store.cheesestoresl.com

Of course we had to have pupcakes from Srinkles Cupcakes. (All my four legged guests just loved them)

I have put together a few more images of the evening for you to enjoy.Image

I am still exhausted from opening all the wonderful presents that I received.  As I reflect back on my first year of life it is obvious to me that it is important to train your human. My suggestion to all four leggers out there is to regularly give your two leggers lots of attention, they worry too much and need lessons from us on how to play.

dog training, dog tricks, hollywood, puppy training classes, Zoomroom

I have embarked on a new class at the ZoomRoom called Tricks. I am excited to learn something new. Unfortunately the air conditioner was broken during our first class and it was very difficult to focus on new tricks let alone meet new people and their pets. It was a sauna in there. I am panting just thinking about it now. Everyone is much more advanced than myself, but I plan on practicing my sit pretty and wave this week so that I can move on to new tricks the other dogs were doing.

Just in case you might like to learn a few new tricks I will be giving you some tips on how I learn these fun tricks. All my tricks are learned under adult two legged supervision with positive training. You can read up on positive training from one of our favorite TV persona. Victoria Stilwell.

1. Sit Pretty.
This is one of my two legged people’s favorite tricks because I have to concentrate so hard that I often stick my tongue out while performing this trick. First have your two legged pal get one of your favorite treats, (I prefer ziwipeak treats). Sit in front of them. They will move their hand with the treat towards you, just above your head… but not too high. They say the magic words “sit pretty” and up I go, everyone smiles at this trick. It took a lot of patience and quite a few tries to get the trick right but it is a crowd-pleaser that I hope you try. (If you click on my photo you can see me in action)

2. Down.
I hate to admit this, but this was a very hard trick for me to learn. I knew sit, I learned sit pretty but down was just puzzling to me. I will explain how my two legged people finally got me to learn “down”. They had to sit with me and pay a lot of attention to my body language. We would do a few tricks which I would be rewarded for with lots of praise and sometimes a treat and in-between tricks they would say “down” and bring the treat to the ground. This didn’t work too well but then I would tire and they would praise me and repeat the word “down” it only took me a few times to realize that down meant laying on the floor. Odd trick but it really makes the two-leggers happy.

3. Bang. (This is what my people call it) some people call this “play dead”
Once I mastered “down” we started giving treats for the word “bang” which, honestly, I think is all about having one’s tummy rubbed.

I will be posting more later as my teacher at the ZoomRoom is going to try to teach me how to ring a bell. I plan on spending hours with my people learning these fun tricks.

Dogs, hollywood, m, shy dog, treats, Zoomroom

So my people spoil me a bit and I have a bit of a shy dog complex. Actually I really just enjoy riding in my mom’s purse but don’t tell her. So the people decided to enroll me into this group of other shy dogs at a place called the Zoomroom.

We had our first class and it was quite interesting. It is a school that teaches my people to feed me massive treats. I quite like this concept. People can be fooled into such silly tricks. I already knew how to sit, but if they wish to learn new tricks I will gladly help them for a small fee.

Our class is small, there are three other four legged students, I am the smallest and the largest is a sweet white pit bull. We all have our own story as to why we are called shy dogs. I will be reporting on my parents progress, I hope to teach them many things
